A Note from Cleanly Simple's Founder/CEO, Shannon LaForge
MY WORK IN THE CLEAN LIVING ARENA BEGAN A DECADE AGO.
Once my husband and I set in motion having a family, it led me down a path to explore a cleaner, non-toxic lifestyle. When my first child was born, my husband and I gradually discovered she had numerous physical and developmental issues from birth. These issues continued and sometimes increased as she got older, ranging from sensory processing disorders, OCD, eczema, stomach issues, headaches, anxiety, learning challenges, and visual development disorders. Our daughter wasn’t physically sick in a traditional sense, but she was in constant distress and it was painful to watch. Like any parent, we grappled with how to help our daughter and find the best ways to treat her challenges. It has been a 10-year process of constant discovery and learning.
As a result, I started to look at everything I was bringing into our home and how it could possibly affect my child’s wellbeing. I began to explore the role of my household cleaning products and other items containing chemicals that could be placing a toxic burden on her body and her brain, and potentially wreaking havoc on her constitutional makeup. I began to investigate and do my own research on the effects of certain ingredients (synthetic OR natural) and slowly switch out any products that might have a negative impact on my daughter’s health. In doing so, I realized that my efforts were not only affecting my daughter but were affecting the overall health of my entire family—in a positive way!
Over a period of 10 years, I was busy investigating as much as I could, slowly switching to safer household cleaners, cookware, food containers, water filtration, organic food, air purifiers, toys, and personal care products, such as skin care, bath and body, sunscreen, and cosmetics, to name a few.
What began as a necessity soon became a passion. As my entire family’s wellbeing began to improve, I knew I had to share this information with others—to help them become more aware of the environmental factors that are impacting our overall health and make it easier for others to implement in their lives.
From this passion, Cleanly Simple was born.
